For over 40 years I have assisted others in navigating life transitions:  through community and social justice programs, as a Registered Nurse, as a Board Certified Psychiatric and Mental Health professional for over 15 years and through a holistic consulting practice. My path led me to Hospice work. Sharing the end of life journey with individuals, their families and friends was a profound and humbling experience that provided valuable lessons in what really matters. Now retired, I  discovered my passion as a jazz vocalist and as an Age Appreciation Advocate.  An IONS Conscious Aging Facilitator and member of A Tribe Called Aging, I’ve co-facilitated global webinars, online workshops and presented at conferences.  I gain strength and compassion engaging with others about the poignancy, challenges and joys of aging.

I am an author and advocate for older people, especially those who face uncertain work and financial jeopardy. My book, Fifty-five, Underemployed, and Faking Normal (published by Simon & Schuster), is for and about the millions of older Americans who, despite career choice and decent incomes, are facing the prospect of downward mobility in old age. My TEDx talk has drawn more than 1.7 million views; I am a three-time guest on PBS NewsHour. My essays have appeared in Forbes, The Huffington Post, Next Avenue and The Washington Post.

Conscious Aging From The Heart:
Perceiving Possibility

The process of growing older includes an often overlooked component: the noetic character of aging. Our culture rarely celebrates that we even get to age, but as many know, growing older can be a powerful and inspiring time to more clearly hear our inner voice of knowing.

Register for a special interactive two-session online workshop where we will take a deep dive into a single theme: perceiving possibility. Join IONS Conscious Aging facilitators Marc Blesoff and Evalina Everidge as, together, we explore differences between “surviving” aging and trusting ourselves in the natural flow toward well-being.

Shifting Ageism: How Consciousness
Affects Our Experience of Aging

Landscape with red leaves

A seminar moderated by Marc Blesoff

While aging is universal, our individual experience of the process is impacted by, among other factors, our beliefs, our resources and demographics. For ourselves, our communities and our planet, how we age today is unsustainable unless we can shift our consciousness about aging. That consciousness, in turn, can help us better understand our interconnectedness and allow us to shift toward aging in a way that feels more connected, empowering and transformative. A panel of experts discussed cultural and personal perspectives on growing older, as well as what some have called the inherent noetic nature of aging. Together, we considered a shift in our consciousness, beliefs and attitudes about the inevitable process of getting older.
